A number of dead fish have been appearing in a popular park's fishing lake - but council bosses are unsure why.

Basildon's Gloucester Park has seen dead fish appearing in its main fishing lake.

The borough council has confirmed it is aware of the issue as a number had to be removed from the lake.

However, council bosses are unsure why this is occurring.

They are currently working with the Environmental Agency and Anglia Water to establish the cause of this issue.

A spokesman for Basildon Council said: "We’re aware of an issue at Gloucester Park where a number of dead fish have had to be removed from the main fishing lake.

"We’re currently working with the Environmental Agency and Anglia Water at the location to establish the cause of the issue."
