Foodies headed down to Basildon's Festival Leisure Park this morning as Five Guys opened its second south Essex restaurant.

The fast food chain launched its newest branch at the Festival Leisure Park today (July 11) at the former Villagio restaurant unit.

Doors opened at 11am and park bosses showed their excitement this morning, as a spokesman for Festival Leisure Park said they "couldn't wait" in a statement on its Facebook.

In the statement, they said: "Today's the day!

"The doors open at 11am so head down to Five Guys this lunchtime and try it for yourself. 

"We can't wait to see you all for a tasty bite to eat."

Before the opening, councillors and families said the new eatery be a huge hit in the community.

A spokesman for Five Guys said: "We’re thrilled to have opened a brand new Five Guys restaurant at Basildon Festival Leisure Park, and we loved welcoming customers through our doors today to enjoy our delicious made to order burgers, fries and shakes."

The restaurant is the first Five Guys to open in Basildon, with the only other south Essex site being at Lakeside Shopping Centre.

Five Guys restaurants have opened at Lakeside Shopping Centre and in Chelmsford in recent years.
