A waste firm has confirmed its revised bin collection times as Essex is set to face extreme heat next week.

Councils in Essex have been announcing changes to their recycling and waste collection schedules next week to protect workers from the extreme heat expected.

This comes as The Met Office has issued extreme heat weather warnings for most of the UK from Sunday until Tuesday.

An amber warning is in place for Southend on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as forecasters say the hot weather could lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.

The warning for Monday and Tuesday has also been upgraded from “amber” to “red” for other parts of Essex, the first time this has ever been issued in England.

Experts are now warning the exceptional hot spell will lead will pose a “population-wide danger to life”.

The Met Office says “substantial changes in working practices and daily routines will be required,” to protect people from the heat.

Veolia has confirmed its waste collection crews in Southend will start their rounds at 6am on Tuesday (July 19) instead of 7am.

There is no kerbside collection on Mondays and the start time will go back to normal from Wednesday as temperatures are expected to decrease again. 

Normally all collections in Southend are expected to be carried out between 7am and 6pm.
