The owner of Southend's Adventure Island says his team becomes like marriage counsellors in the heat.

Philip Miller, Adventure Island owner, insisted crime and drugs haven't proved an issue during the hot weather, after being asked by a BBC reporter. 

It comes as thousands of daytrippers and visitors have flocked to Southend seafront this weekend as the heatwave continues.

Weather forecasters and experts are warning temperatures could hit 40 degrees and people should stay inside.

Speaking to BBC News Mr Miller said: "Well our biggest concern is the health and safety of our staff and our customers, particularly with the staff, we make sure they have got their lotion on and their hats on and it keeps them happy.

"But the biggest problem we have with the customers is domestics, because the sun fries their brains they tend to out with each other, we finish up as a marriage guidance bureau at times.

"We have a great relationship with our police force, they come to us in minutes if there are any calls, we've got our own security people, CCTV and all those things and our security guys are highly trained, they are also accredited by the police.

"We work hand in glove with the police, very few people can get away with very much along here."
