A secondary school is now reconsidering sports day and will be allowing pupils to wear their PE kits in class due to the heatwave.

In a letter to parents leaders of Castle Views School say they are reviewing plans for its sports day which is due to happen on Tuesday and making decisions based on the forecasts.

It comes as weather experts predict south Essex will see temperatures in the high 30's tomorrow and on Tuesday.

The school letter says: "Given that temperatures are expected to rise even further for the last 3 days, we have made the following decision to allow all pupils to wear PE kit for the final 3 days of term.

"Therefore, they will not require school uniform. PE kit, as would be worn to PE lessons, is required and the only clothing allowed. Please ensure you child does not come to school in any other clothing other than what they would wear for this lesson. Your support with this is welcomed.

"We must ensure that pupils meet this expectation, to ensure they are comfortable in the heat whilst maintain standards including having a bag and all of their equipment.

"Our Sports Day is Tuesday 19th July 2022. The PE team and my leadership team are reviewing plans and making decisions based on the forecasts. Pupil welfare is always our priority but we also want to try and have the opportunity to come together, as we always do, to celebrate sport, PE and compete. We will communicate to pupils and families what to expect next week. Either way, as above, they will be in their PE kits."
