Southend residents may be wondering the meaning behind the unique new artwork banner which has been put up on the railway bridge in the High Street. 

It is called 'Essex Away From Keyboard?' and was created by Basildon artist George Morl, commissioned by Focal Point Gallery.

Reflecting on 100 years of radio broadcasting in Essex, it is a digital collage which illustrates the importance of communication devices and online communities for people with disabilities.

The work is configured in the style of a keyboard adapted for those with learning disabilities and for computer gaming.

The banner is made up of several images including computer graphics, artworks by students and a series of portraits of the artist as a digital avatar.
