A HUGE mural honouring the England Women’s football team has been etched onto a Billericay cafe, highlighting the team’s success as they qualify for the final of the European Championships.

The mural, on One 3 Four Cafe on Billericay High Street, has been sponsored by the Ferdinand Group - a charity created by former England and Premier League player Anton Ferdinand.

One 3 Four Café has a history of using the space for different types of wall art, and decided to use the art to promote the often overlooked women’s team.

On Tuesday night, the Lionesses beat Sweden 4-0 to qualify for Sunday’s tournament final as they hope to “bring football home”.

The mural depicts captain Lucy Bronze alongside goalscoring hero Ellen White.

A spokesman for the restaurant said: “It’s great for the community spirit, and I hope it shows the everyone on the team that Billericay has their support.”

The mural is designed to provide a unique background for outdoor eaters and highlight the success the team have had in this summer’s tournament.

Billericay town councillor, Jim Devlin said: “It is certainly an interesting focal point in the high street and gives a sense a of character to it.

“I think wall art is a nice addition to Billericay as more and more pop up, I work in the Billericay Archive and would love to take pictures of it all, and line them up.

“This is quite different to graffiti, it has an air of class about it and has important messages and themes, like when Communists painted news on walls, so all citizens could understand.”

The mural was painted during the run up to the Women’s Euro 2022 semi-final.

England will now face Germany or France in the final of competition, with the two footballing giants facing off in the second semi-final last night.

It would be the first time the women have run the competition and would see them outdo the men who finished second in 2021’s European Championships as they lost to Italy on penalties in the final, breaking the hurts of fans up and down the country.
