A man has been handed a suspended prison sentence for causing unnecessary suffering to a a Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog.
Basildon Magistrates' Court heard how Neil Davies, 56, of Queensmere, Benfleet, failed to obtain "proper and necessary" vet care and attention for an infected wound on the dog's leg.

He also failed to later investigate and address the causes of the poor bodily condition and weight loss of the dog, named Scrappy.
Davies was sentenced to prison for 6 months concurrent, suspended for 12 months.
He was also banned from dealing in, owning, keeping and participating in keeping all animals for 10 years.
