FOOTGOLF is the latest sporting craze sweeping the nation – and now a course looks set to open in Basildon!

The Philpot family, owners of Barleylands Farm in Billericay, have submitted a bud to Basildon Council to transform 12 acres of land into a 32-hole footgolf course.

Footgolf is a sport in which players kick a football ball into hole in as few shots as possible, combining golf and football, hence the name!

The course will feature 18 holes designed for younger players with shorter distances and a second 18-hole course is designed to be more technically challenging for adults.

The move forms part of the Philpot family’s drive to diversify the farm and the latest proposal would see the course build adjacent to the recently approved adventure golf at Barleylands.

The farm park attracts almost 150,000 visitors a year, and bosses hope the latest attraction will build on this.

In planning documents supporting the application, farm bosses estimate the course would attract a further 100 – 150 visitors a day.

The documents add: “The benefit of footgolf is that compared to golf it is quicker to play, more accessible, and does not require expensive equipment.”
