A POPULAR country park remains closed for a fifth day following a discovery of a body.

Wat Tyler Country Park, in Pitsea, will be closed throughout today, with still no update of when it may re-open.

The park was first closed on Saturday, with a police cordon put in place after a body was found.

After a body was found, police charged, Garry Bennett, 36, with murder in connection with a missing woman from Basildon.

Madison Wright, a mother from Basildon, had not been seen or heard from since Friday, July 22.

The formal identification process of the discovered body is yet to take place, but Madison’s family has been informed.

Following the finding both Wat Tyler Country Park and Pitsea Recycling Centre were closed.

Wat Tyler Country Park still remains closed five days on, and bosses added the inflatables day has been moved to Lake Meadows.

In a statement, bosses said: “Wednesday, August 3, we remain closed.

“We are deeply saddened by what has happened in our park and we continue to assist the police with their enquiries and investigation.

“If you have booked on to our education activities, please call us on 01268 208090.

“If you were planning to attend the inflatables today, they are at Lake Meadows between 1pm and 4pm.”

It is currently unknown whether Pitsea Recycling Centre is also still closed, but we will bring you updates on this as soon as we have them.
