CONCERN has been expressed for a 19-year-old victim injured in knife attack on Saturday.

The incident at around 2.45pm on Saturday, in London Road, Rayleigh, saw a 19-year-old victim injured with a knife.

A 20-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent in connection with the incident.

He has since been released on bail.

Mike Wilkinson, councillor representing the Wheatley ward, said: “Any violent incident is a cause for concern but particularly when a weapon is involved.

“My thoughts are with the victim, and I hope he recovers quickly.

“As a retired detective myself I know the importance of witnesses helping the police, so I do urge anyone who witnessed the incident or knows anything about the incident to come forward and help.

“This is further evidence as to why we need CCTV in our town which would no doubt have helped.

“Rochford Council has done all of the hard work and put finances in place, so I urge Rayleigh Town Council to expedite this project to protect the residents of our town.”

Essex Police are appealing for witnesses as they believe there were a significant number of people who saw what happened.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “A man’s been arrested in connection with an incident where another man was injured with a knife in Rayleigh.

“We were called to reports of a fight involving two men in London Road at around 2.45pm yesterday (Saturday 6 August).

“The victim, a 19-year-old man, sustained injuries to his arm, hand, and chest.

“A 20-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent.

“He’s since been released on bail until 2 September.

“This incident took place in the middle of the day on a busy road, and we believe there will be a significant number of people who will have seen what happened.
