Radio Essex has warned its listeners of an online scam with social media accounts imitating its presenters.

The radio station says fake profiles have appeared on social media with fraudsters pretending to be its presenters.

These fake accounts have been contacting listeners with claims they have won a prize, Radio Essex states.

A statement from the station said: "Radio Essex would never ask for credit card details in order for a listener to participate in a competition or redeem a prize.

"Please be vigilant when engaging with any such messages."

The Southend-based station says it is working with Facebook to remove any profiles imitating its presenters so no further listeners are targeted.
