Firefighters tackled a suspected arson blaze covering 200metres by 200metres in a Southend park.

Three crews were called to the incident yesterday in Garon Park at about 4.55pm.

Essex Fire Service said it's thought the blaze was started deliberately.

A spokesman for the service said: "Firefighters were called to a field fire in Southend.

"On arrival, crews confirmed that a fire was affecting an area of grassland and trees measuring 200metres by 200metres.

"Firefighters used water and beaters to extinguish the fire by 6:11pm. Crews believe this fire may have been started deliberately."
