PARTS of Southend will turn purple when hundreds of mourners converge at a park to remember “beautiful” Archie Battersbee.

The youngster’s family have revealed plans to host a vigil in his honour at Priory Park on Sunday evening to allow supporters to pay their own tributes.

Eco-friendly balloons are set to be let off into the air and purple ribbons hung from trees to remember the former Earls Hall Primary and Chase High School pupil.

Archie’s mum, Hollie Dance, has revealed his body has now been moved to Southend Hospital following his tragic death last weekend.

His family have now also returned to Southend and hope Sunday’s vigil will allow supporters the chance to pay their own respects to Archie.

“Anyone that supported and loved Archie is invited and welcome to come to the vigil,” mum Hollie told the Echo.

“We hope to see Archie’s army there out in force to remember my beautiful boy.

“People can create purple hearts using card and hang them on trees using ribbons with their personalised messages and tributes to Archie.

“They can let off balloons but they must be eco-friendly because of the wildlife. Archie was all about saving wildlife; he wouldn’t want to see harm to any animals.

“There will also be a prayer and a sing song for him too.”

Hollie says plans are being made for Archie’s funeral and hopes a date will be confirmed soon.

She admits her family feel some relief being back in their home city following months of gruelling legal battles over whether to switch off Archie’s life-support.

He had been in a coma for nearly four months before it was switched off on Saturday. Hollie added: “I feel comfort knowing Archie is back in his home city, back where he belongs.

“As hard as it is, the NHS staff here in Southend are so lovely and compassionate.

“Whatever I do in the future it is so that this never happens to any other children or parents again, I hope I will be able to change some laws very soon, so no one else has to go what we went through.

“We just want to thank everyone who has supported us over the last four months from the bottom of our hearts, it has meant so much.”
