A COUPLE who supplied the streets of Southend with drugs were caught by police moments after they had completed a suspected deal.

Police later found a stash of Amphetamine hidden inside a caravan after stopping a vehicle Kevin Innes, 44, and Charmain Bunn, 34, were in.

Officers had made the stop after seeing someone exit the vehicle for what they believed was a drugs deal.

Police found a mix of amphetamine, cannabis and lock knives on the duo after making the stop back on March 24, 2020.

They appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Friday where it was revealed officers found 1.443kg of Amphetamine in a caravan attributed to Innes.

Prosecuting, Toby Roseman, said: “Police saw a known drug user leaving the car and stopped it.

“Bunn’s phone was checked and it showed messaged to suggest they were sending drugs to users.

"There were also messages involving what seems to be the sale of amphetamine to user.”

Mitigating for Bunn, Cathryn Sutcliffe said the woman has turned her life around since she was caught.

Ms Sutcliffe said: “She’s in a very different position than she was at the time of these offences.

"At the time, she was taking amphetamine and drinking but has stopped both of these.

“They were partners but have since separated and she doesn’t mix with people who take drugs.”

Innes, who represented himself, said he wants to change after being addicted to cocaine and heroin, telling the court: “I’ve got to change my lifestyle, I can’t go back to the way I was.”

Innes admitted possession with intent to supply class B drugs and possession of a bladed article.

Bunn admitted the same charges as well as an extra count of possession of a class B drug.

Judge Samantha Cohen adjourned Innes’ sentence for a drug testing and rehabilitation requirements report.

Bunn was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for a year for the possession with intent to supply class b drugs, one month suspended for a year for the possession of a bladed article and there was no separate penalty for the possession of cannabis.

Sentencing Bunn, judge Cohen said: “You have admitted serious offences and were caught in a car dealing drugs.

"I accept you were in the grips of drug addiction.”
