A MAN who issued a tirade of abuse to a number of victims on a social media site has been handed a restraining order and curfew.

Leo Alsopp called a woman a “paedophile” and a “nonce” while urging others to share her home address with him during a series of shocking live broadcasts on video sharing platform TikTok.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard one victim had her disabled son called a highly offensive name which chairman of the bench Anthony Ealden branded a hate crime.

The prosecutor, who declined to be named, revealed the four victims in the case were friends of Alsopp, 30, who had met them via various social media sites.

However, relations soon soured when Alsopp, of Cedar Avenue, Tiptree, began to make offensive comments about them online between January 8 and February 22.

Having made a derogatory comment about one victim’s mother, he added: “Oh, you can’t – she’s dead”.

On another occasion Alsopp branded a female friend a “paedo, nonce and online groomer” and implored others to share her home address with him.

A victim impact statement read to the court detailed how this woman has been left taking taxis to her daughter's school and shopping online due to fear of being seen by her abuser.

Another woman was told “all you are is a jumped-up, back street prostitute”, the prosecution concluded during a hearing last month.

Alsopp admitted two counts of harassment and sending offensive messages. He was handed a three month curfew between 9pm and 7am and a restraining order against his four victims on Wednesday.

He was ordered to not mention the victims online or contact them as part of the order.

The court heard the curfew was extended to three months to reflect the hate crime status of one of the offences.

Speaking in July’s hearing, Frank O’Toole, mitigating, revealed his client is undergoing gender therapy and is on a “very severe” hormone treatment which he argued could have impacted his behaviour.

He added: "He has pledged to come off social media for the future and accepts his behaviour demonstrated had an impact.”

Alsopp must also undertake 12 mental health treatment sessions, 25 rehabilitation activity sessions and pay £200 in costs and a surcharge.
