Firefighters are dealing with a large field fire near Canvey Road on Canvey.
A videos from a motorist in Leigh, Tracy Pease, shows smoke billowing from a field as crews are tackling the blaze near Canvey Road.
Traffic is slow moving eastbound on Canvey Way (A130) from Sadlers Farm Interchange (A13) to Somnes Avenue, which appears to be as a result of the inferno.
An Essex Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Thank you for calling our control room to report but we are on scene and will provide further updates when we can.
"Please keep your windows and doors closed if you live nearby and avoid the area."
Experts have warned the UK could see more wildfires this weekend as temperatures are expected to reach 35C.
An amber heat warning has been issued by the Met Office and the forecasters warned more people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes, rivers and other beauty spots leading to an increased risk of water safety and fire-related incidents.
