A truck smashed into and knocked over a postbox in a hit and run crash near a retail park and roundabout.

The vehicle was seen on its side and resting on the postbox in High Road, Pitsea near the Pitsea Retail Park on Saturday night at about 11.53pm.

Police say they were called to the crash and the driver left the scene.

Images and videos were shared on social media which showed the crash and the scene.

Images also showed emergency services on the scene.

One witness said she heard a loud bang and saw the truck.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a crash in High Road, Pitsea at around 9.40pm on August 13. A car, a white Nissan Navara, had been in collision with a wall and the driver had left the scene. There are no reports of any injuries.
