A CLASSIC car which was stored in a temperature-regulated garage on Canvey for more than 30 years, has been sold for a whopping £71,000.

The Ford Capri 1986 2.8 Injection Special car, which had just 585 miles on the clock, was sold for more than seven times what the owner paid for it when it was new.

The car was able to be sold for the huge amount due to being well preserved by the owner, who refused to drive the car and stored it in the specially-equipped garage.

Bosses at KGF Classic Cars, in Peterborough, sold the classic car after they were contacted by the owner.

Karl Fasulo, 47, company director, said it was a rare find and something he doesn’t think will be seen again.

He said: “It’s a one off, absolutely and dates back to 1986. The man we sold it for has been the only owner and he kept it in a dehumidified garage.

“It’s been completely untouched since it left the Ford factory and even still had the original Goodyear tyres.

“He came to us as he knows we specialise in low mileage original cars. I was flabbergasted when I saw the Ford Capri, it was absolutely amazing.

“We do have low mileage and special cars, but this one is unrepeatable. It has low mileage, but it’s way it’s been kept and preserved so well.”

Mr Fasulo said it was even transported to MOT test centres on the back of a trailer to preserve the mileage, with the garage six miles away and the owner not wanting to add to the miles.

Nothing had ever been put in the boot and nobody had sat in the rear seats of the classic car.

He added: “It even had some original items still in the packaging, such as a first aid kit and fire extinguisher.

“He paid about £7,900 for it and we had a phenomenal response to it and it’s not gone to a collector.

He bought it in 1986 and we sold it in the last month or so.

“We went to collect it and he insisted on driving it in our enclosed trailer.”
