Since Summer flights with easyJet returned to Southend Airport in May, customers have been eager for more destinations to be added to the line-up.

Southend Airport resumed easyJet flights to Palma, Malaga and Faro from May 1, almost two years after the airline quit the airport.

The financial pressures of the Covid pandemic saw easyJet cease operations from the airport in 2020.

However as the aviation industry recovered from the blow this year, the reduced service returned.

While the return of flights to Spain and Portugal have been popular, customers have also been calling for the airport to add even more flights to popular holiday destinations.

So yesterday morning, the airport itself asked customers for the getaway spots they want the most.

A London Southend Airport spokesman said on Facebook: "Oh, go on then...Tell us: where would you want London Southend Airport fly to in 2023?

"We think we know, but..."

One of the most popular suggestions was, of course, Alicante, with Murcia and Amsterdam also making the top of people's lists alongside Corfu and other Greek islands.

There were also pleas for domestic flights to be added. Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cornwall were among the favourites.

The airport spokesman themselves admitted they get plenty of requests for these flights, commenting: "We get lots of requests for domestic flights, so it's certainly something for us to consider pursuing in the future."

There could be hope for more airlines to fly to new destinations from the airport in the future, as it has seen increasing interest from airlines this summer while it takes extra flights amid struggles to add additional flights at London airports.

The airport even revealed an exclusive Blue Air flight to Bucharest, which took off last week.

A spokesman for Southend Airport says bosses are doing their best to add more flights to their line-up, but it's down to airlines to choose to fly from the city.

In response to a customer asking for a firm winter schedule, the airport said: "We're doing our best but it's down to the airlines as to whether or not they want to fly to/from Southend (and why wouldn't they!)

"Fingers crossed for next year. Having a clear idea of popular destinations helps us to push for the new year and know where to target."
