LIFEBOATS were on display at an open day event which gave the public a view inside an RNLI station.

The return of the open day event at the Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI saw lots of people getting involved to dunk a crew member in the river.

The event has not taken place for the last two years because of Covid, so crews were looking forward to its return.

Members of the public had to hit a target with a sponge to plunge a lifeboat crew member into the river.

Stalls were set up outside the lifeboat station which included arts and crafts, food and drink.

The Burnham RNLI lifeboats were on display for people to view.

An RNLI spokesman said: “We had a lovely day, the weather was perfect and many people came to enjoy the day with us and to look over the visiting all-weather lifeboat from Walton and Frinton.”

Crews were called to an incident immediately after the event, where they rescued a number of people on paddleboards.
