A NEW breakfast and brunch restaurant plans to start selling alcohol, but has been hit by a series of objections over noise.

Egg Bros, based in Leigh Road, Leigh, on the site previously occupied by a cocktail bar, opened earlier this year and has proved popular with residents.

Now, bosses have submitted plans to expand their offering and sell booze between 8am and 7pm as well as extending their opening hours until 8pm.

However, the plans have been called into the licensing committee following “formal objections” and members will vote on the plans on Wednesday.

The restaurant is on the site of the former Mojo cocktail bar, which closed in mysterious circumstances in January 2020 following a catalogue of issues.

Carole Mulroney, ward councillor for the area, feared that the anti-social behaviour seen at the former business could impact Egg Bros, but urged people to remember it is a different business with new owners.

She said: “There was a licence there previously when it was Mojos, and there were an awful lot of complaints at the time about how it was run, the noise and the anti-social issues.

“I am not at all surprised there have been objections to this application, as people will remember what it was like before and that area as suffered badly from what happened at mojo.

“However, we have to be careful with licenses as just because there was a problem before, doesn’t mean there will be again, as every business is different.

“And at the end of the day nobody from that area has come to me yet to complain or give a comment as to whether I can do anything about it.”

Leigh Road and Broadway has become a hive of activity recently with dozens of new flats, homes and business applications on the rise.

According to the application, the applicant wants the licence to take effect as soon as possible.

The business which is currently open until 3pm from Tuesday to Friday, until 4pm on Saturdays, and 2pm on Mondays.

If the application is accepted, hours would be extended until 8pm each day, with alcohol to be sold from 8am to 7pm.

Egg Bros were contacted for comment but did not respond in time for print.
