Southend Airport is reportedly focusing on Alicante "a lot" as bosses hope airlines take notice of the high demand.

A spokesman for Southend Airport has said the team is working hard behind the scenes to secure as many new routes as possible for 2023, while answering frequently asked questions on Southend Airport's Facebook story.

Alicante seems to be a major aim for bosses, as it is among passengers' favourite route to return.

Last week, the airport asked customers for the getaway spots they want added the most.

And, of course, Alicante was one of the most popular suggestions.

Answering a call for flights to the Canary Islands today, a spokesman said: "We're focusing on Alicante a lot at the moment in the hopes that airlines take notice of the high demand here in Southend (and in Alicante too).

"But always keep your requests coming so we can target certain destinations in future."

Southend Airport has previously said it wants to add more short-haul flights and routes to its current offerings as bosses aim to get back to pre-Covid pandemic levels.

The airport spokesman also told its Facebook followers the popular Navigator Pub would "100 per cent" reopen once they have enough passengers for it to be "financially viable".

In the meantime, they say The Pilot Cafe has a great selection.
