The re-opening event of a much-loved arts and events centre has been postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Mill Arts and Events Centre (The Mill) in Rayleigh was set to re-open to the community with a special Open Day on Sunday (September 11).
However, this event has been postponed as Rochford District Council has joined the country in mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II following her death aged 96 yesterday afternoon.
The Rayleigh Windmill will also be closed this weekend.
However, the reopening of The Mill to the public and event bookings on Monday, September 12 will continue as planned.
Mike Steptoe, chairman of Rochford District Council, said: "I am deeply saddened at the news of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
"For the majority of us, Her Majesty has been a constant figure throughout our lives. Her contribution and commitment to our country has been outstanding as was her sense of duty.
"I know that many residents will, like me, feel her loss at a deeply personal level.
"I will be sending a letter of condolence to the Royal Family on behalf of Rochford District Council expressing my sincere sympathy."
Paper copies of Books of Condolence will be available at the council’s reception at Rochford Council Offices.
Mr Steptoe has placed flowers in tribute at the Rochford Reservoir.
Floral tributes can also be placed at King George’s Playing Field Rose Garden, Rayleigh, between the hours of 7am to 8pm.
