FOSTER carers are still needed across the county.

Essex County Council has launched a new appeal for people to come forward and become foster parents as part of a countywide recruitment campaign being led by existing foster carers.

Ray Gooding, deputy cabinet member for schools, children and families, said: "The county's existing foster carers are the best possible advert in the bid to recruit more and I am delighted that so many attended the campaign launch.

"These people play a huge part in helping children who really are in need and we need more like them."

Around 800 children a year are placed in foster homes by the council, which aims to recruit and extra 200 carers in 2008 to 2009.
