May I applaud the efforts of Conservative county councillor John Schofield on finally getting Essex County Council to scrap plans to sell land to developers in Dry Street (Echo, April 1).

It is refreshing to hear a local county councillor has been able to achieve something about a matter which has worried many of his local constituents.

Too long have planners, who do not live south of the A127, used south Basildon as a dumping ground for hairbrained schemes.

Bail hostels, incinerators, spoil heaps and travellers sites have all been pushed south, far away from where those who have approved these plans, live.
