I was diagnosed with inoperable prostate cancer just over a year ago and try to keep informed of trials for new treatments.
Prostate Cancer Awareness week last month went unnoticed in the Echo.
However, the paper carried an article on ovarian cancer, of which there are around 6,500 new cases each year. Compare this to prostate cancer, which accounts for some 35,000 new cases.
The survival rate from breast cancer, with its 44,000 new cases, is actually better than prostate cancer in percentage terms. How can it be that Prostate cancer receives the least publicity and funding?
It would be good to see more attention given to the less fashionable categories of this terrible disease.
