South Essex scouts joined 120 Scout volunteers paying their respect to HM the Queen and supporting the lying-in-state process at Westminster Palace.

They were on hand to assist members of the public wanting to pay their respects and keep them safe.

Chloe Hooper, 20, from Rayleigh, and Edward Cooper, 19, from Southend offered support and help to those in the queue.

More than a hundred Scouts aged between 18 and 25 from across the UK will join volunteers from Samaritans to offer help where it is needed.

These volunteers will be on hand to assist members of the public wanting to pay their respects and keep them safe.

 

Chloe said: “It’s an honour and privilege to be able to help out in this historic event. I made my promise to do my duty to Her Majesty the Queen and it’s humbling to be able to do that one final time by helping out with the lying-in-state process. I’m extremely proud. 

 

Edward said: “I’m so proud to be selected for this historic event. I’m living my promise of doing my duty to the Queen. I’m sure it will be very emotional”

Scout leaders say there’s been a special relationship between the Scouts and The Queen, with Scout volunteer supporting her coronation.

The scout leaders also say shroughout seven decades, HM The Queen encouraged Scouts to do their best and do their duty to help other people.
