A CYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital following a crash at a major Essex roundabout.

Essex Police and East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a patient was airlifted to hospital following a crash between a car and a cyclist.

The crash happened on the A132 at Rettendon Turnpike shortly after 2pm.

As a result, the road was closed until shortly before 4pm.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of a collision on the A132 at Rettendon shortly after 2pm today, Wednesday 21 September.

“We attended alongside emergency service colleagues, and the road was closed whilst the incident was dealt with.

“A cyclist was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The road was re-opened shortly before 4pm.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service added: “We were called to the A132 at Wickford at around 2pm today following reports of a collision.

“An ambulance, ambulance officer and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended.

“Crews treated one patient at the scene before airlifting them to hospital for further assessment and care.”
