A man has been found not guilty by reason of insanity of stalking woman following a crown court trial.

Damian Swoboda, 23, was standing trial at Basildon Crown Court charged with stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

The jury returned its verdict this morning and told the court they found him not guilty by reason of insanity.

Earlier in the trial the Jury heard that Mr Swoboda, of Coblam Road, Westcliff, had allegedly sent her unwanted gifts, such as flowers and jewellery.

His sentence has been adjourned to a later date. Judge Andrew Hurst thanked the jury for its time and told the members of the jury Mr Swoboda will continue to be looked after by medical professionals.

Earlier in the trial Prosecuting, Richard Scott told the jury Mr Swoboda He said: “You will hear he suffers from, and did at the time, a condition which means he’s prone to delusions and one that in this case caused him to believe that she loved him."
