A bank is set to host pop up sessions at a south Essex library after the closure of its high street branch.

Following the closure of the Billericay HSBC branch last month, Tory MP John Baron has welcomed news today that it will be holding pop up events at Billericay Library on October 6 and 9.

Mr Baron met with HSBC representatives after the closure announcements earlier this year and agreed that HSBC would hold pop up events for 6 months after the branch shuts.

HSBC will review this further with the town's MP after the 6 month period ends.

Further pop up events will be announced in due course.

Branch experts will be on hand to give guidance and support and offer important advice on how to reduce the risk of fraud on customers' accounts and the services available at the Post Office.

The team will also be on hand to help with queries about products and services.

For those registered for digital banking, staff can also help with making payments up to £25,000 to new or existing beneficiaries within the UK, making an international payment, creating, amending or deleting standing orders, viewing or cancelling Direct Debits, viewing statements, reporting lost, stolen or damaged cards and depositing cheques up to £500.

Mr Baron said: "I am pleased that HSBC has heeded the call for an in person banking presence once the Billericay branch has closed.

"Not every customer is able or wants to deal with their banking needs online and it is important that HSBC does not leave those customers behind.

"I would encourage customers to go along to these pop ups – continuation of which beyond the 6 month trial period will largely depend on use."
