A HORRIFIED eyewitness has revealed how most of the residents of York Road poured out onto the streets in the middle of the night to help after two teenagers were left badly injured.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, claims she was among the first to rush to the aid of the boys after being woken up by a “big bang” around 4.25am.

A police investigation is underway into what detectives are calling an “aggravated burglary” which has seen two people arrested.

Two teenage boys are in hospital after being injured in the incident, including one who is fighting for his life.

The eyewitness, who lives opposite to where the incident happened, told the Echo: “I quickly jumped up and looked outside and saw two young men who were seriously injured.

“One had a very bad injury, I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life.

“The other young man had a leg injury and I sat with them and tried to look after them and tried to keep them with me and conscious.”

She added: “By about 3am I think, everyone was out in the street.

“It was awful and I really hope the boys are both OK. There’s so many rumours going around about what happened, especially on social media.”

The woman admitted she and her neighbours were in shock yesterday as they watched on as police carried out investigations at the scene.

Another resident, a mum-of-two, said: “Sadly, this isn’t a nice place to live at all and we don’t want to see this or anything like it going on here in our neighbourhood.

“I’ve heard two young men were badly hurt which is awful to hear and my thoughts are with them and their families at this horrible time.

“There was a big police presence in the street yesterday and especially during the evening.”

A father-of-one, who also lives in York Road, added: “It sounds like an awful thing to happen.

“I feel a little reassured with so many police here but it’s of course worrying and scary as we live here and don’t want it happening in our community.”
