Police are investigating a video circulating on social media which appears to show fireworks shot at protestors on the Dartford Crossing.

Motorists are fuming as the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, which links Kent and Essex, is shut for a second day after two Just Stop Oil protestors climbed onto the high cables in the early hours on Monday.

Now a clip, going viral on social media, shows a firework reportedly being launched towards the bridge in the direction of  the protesters.

Kent Police told MailOnline it is investigating to verify the video's authenticity and to see if any crime has been committed.

In a statement the force said: "Kent Police is aware of a video circulating online which appears to show fireworks being set off in Greenhithe near to the QEII bridge, Dartford.

"Officers are making enquiries to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the video and to identify any offences which may have been committed."

Essex Police has also been contacted for comment on the footage.

The environmental activist group has demanded that the Government “halts all new oil and gas licences and consents” and said the climbers would remain on top of the bridge until they are “brought down”.

Essex Police brought down the protestors this evening after 38 hours.
