A MUM fears her “life is at stake and hospital bosses don’t care” after an urgent operation to remove a tumour on her ovaries was cancelled at the last minute.

Angie Bunce-Mason, 47, was diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer on August 18 - but more than two months later she is still yet to have treatment.

The mum was due to have an operation at Basildon Hospital to remove the 9cm tumour on her ovary on Monday.

Hospital bosses insisted her treatment is a top priority.

However, she was called just days before to be told it was cancelled, allegedly without any reason given.

Angie claims she was also told she’d be given a new date at the start of this week, but despite calling the hospital numerous times there has been no new date offered.

She is unable to have any chemotherapy on her breast cancer until the surgery to remove the tumour on her ovary is complete.

Angie said: “I have had various appointments since, but two months on I am still yet to have any active treatment.

“I am in so much pain with my ovaries because of the tumour, and the only thing getting me through it was knowing I had the operation soon, now that’s gone.

“I am in total shock, upset, anxious, and stressed.

“It is life-threatening, you can’t wait with cancer and tumours, it is going to have a knock-on effect on my long-term outcome.

“I am at a lost, time is ticking, it isn’t acceptable.”

The mum is petrified of “being carried out of her home in a box”, and fears without urgent surgery her children, nine-year-old Eva and Reuben, 20, could be left without a mum.

The family also previously lost a child, Elana, three, in 2009 with the death increasing Angie’s anxiety around her treatment.

Angie added: “I needed to get treatment to give me the best possible outcome as I am a mum with a young family, I don’t want to be carried out my house in a box, I want this done and to be living my life in the healthiest state possible for my children.

“My life is at stake here and they don’t seem to care.”

A spokesman for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re sorry that Angie’s operation had to be postponed due to illness.

"We are treating her as an absolute priority and are re-booking her surgery as quickly as possible.”

Mid and South Essex NHS Trust has since confirmed Angie has had surgery rebooked for 28/10.
