BLUES fans can be among the first to get an exclusive look at Southend United’s future training ground as works continue.

Club bosses say the 20 acre development north of the new stadium site is making “excellent progress” towards completion.

The Fossetts Farm project also plans to see 224 properties built off Eastern Avenue, Southend, after plans for a hotel were axed.

The first phase of the scheme is already underway, with the new training pitches being installed and ready for use by the winter.

A SHRIMPERS spokesman said: “The four new Championship quality training pitches at Fossetts are continuing at pace and on schedule.

“You can be one of the first to get an exclusive look at the club’s future training ground.

“The new facilities will, over time, prove a major ingredient to the club’s future & success and are the first step in the club’s relocation plans.”

Visits will initially be conducted on Saturday, November 12, and then the following week on November 19 at 11.30am.

Guests will enjoy a one hour-long tour, with about 20 places available for each visit.

The club stated further dates will be added if there is demand for it.

Changes announced in a revised planning application submitted to Southend Council in September also outline proposals to lower the capacity of the planned new stadium to 16,226.

It is hoped the new training pitches will be ready for use by the winter.

Work will then begin on the east, west and south stands of the stadium, with construction set to finish in 2024.

The 224 new homes are expected to be built by 2028, according to the plans.

The Southend United spokesman added: “All guests who sign up will be emailed more information about meeting point etc.

“All questions should be sent to commercial@southend-united.co.uk.”
