Part of the Dartford Crossing will be closed at certain times for the first two weeks of November.

Highways England is carrying out essential maintenance and repairs at the A282 Dartford Crossing to keep the tunnel safe and maintained ahead of winter.

The east tunnel will be closed overnight at different times between November 3 and November 11.

The closure times are as follows:

  • Thursday, November 3 between 8.30pm and 5.30am
  • Friday, November 4 between 9pm and 6am
  • Sunday, November 6 to Friday, November 11 between 8.30pm and 5.30am

The QEII bridge will be closed overnight between 10pm on Saturday, November 5 and 5am on Sunday, November 6 for routine inspections and maintenance.

The tunnel will reopen as normal from 5.30am on Friday, November 11.

A diversion for vehicles less than 4.8m (15‘-9”) high will be in place via the adjacent west tunnel.

For vehicles between 4.8m (15‘-9”) and 5.0m (16’-6”) high, an alternative diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise.

Southbound traffic will be diverted via the east tunnel, while northbound traffic will continue to use the west (left hand side) tunnel as normal.

If you’re planning to travel overnight, Highways England recommends planning ahead and allowing extra time for journeys.

Highways England has said that Dartford Crossing is undergoing an extensive maintenance programme to keep this part of the network running smoothly - meaning more overnight closures in the future.

This means the east tunnel will close again before the end of the year to complete some final work.
