AIRLINE easyJet has moved to reassure passengers that Southend Airport is still a key part of future plans, despite rearranging a number of flights to other airports.

Frustrated fliers took to social media yesterday claiming their flights in May have been moved to other airports, despite being booked to take-off from and return to Southend.

The budget airline has now stated it has been forced to make “adjustments to the schedule”, meaning a number of customers have had flights rebooked at London airports.

easyJet has now reassured passengers that Southend Airport is still a key part of future plans with only a “very small number of customers impacted”.

A spokesman said that the airline “always make adjustments to their schedule and do this several months in advance to provide customers with as much notice as possible and provide alternative options”.

They added: “Some adjustments to our Southend schedule in May means we have rebooked a small number of customers onto existing alternative flights within 24 hours of their original departure, including from other airports in the London area, and if this is not suitable, customers have also been given options to rebook or receive a refund.”

One passenger claimed their flight coming back in May had been moved to Luton, with another had theirs moved to Gatwick.

A spokesman for easyJet did apologise for the inconvenience caused.

They said: “We always review our schedule and make some adjustments several months in advance to provide customers with notice of these changes.

“A small number of customers whose flights from Southend in May have been affected have been informed, with the vast majority already rebooked onto an alternative flight, including options from alternative London airports, or provided with the option to rebook or receive a refund.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

easyJet returned to Southend Airport over the summer with flights to Malaga, Faro and Palma.

It was recently announced that flights to all three destinations are now on sale for next summer.
