Police have taken urgent action this evening amid concerns about violence and disorder in Basildon tonight.
Officers in Basildon are being given additional stop and search powers tonight following concerns about violence and disorder in the Laindon, Basildon and Pitsea areas this evening.
This means officers can now stop members of the public without having reasonable grounds to do so.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Officers can now stop people without having reasonable grounds to do so and is an extension of the stop and search powers we use daily, responsibly and effectively.
"It will be in place from 6pm Friday 18 November to 7am tomorrow shown in the map (Basildon, Pitsea, Vange, Laindon)."
