The symbols, painted in light blue paint or etched into the surface using a knife, appeared last week.
Covering over 130 hectares, the woodlands is managed by Rochford Council, and is home to a popular children’s playground.
Essex Police has been informed of the vandalism.
Access to the woods is unrestricted, with a car park off Main Road.
The gates to Hockley Woods open at 7am and close at 6.30pm.
