SCHOOLCHILDREN can now tread the boards of their very own theatre after the grand opening of the Lee Chapel Theatre in Basildon.
Singing and dancing filled the theatre as the children performed throughout the afternoon finishing with the Lee Chapel Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) choir, made up of Lee Chapel, Phoenix, Rydene and Greensted Primaries, and led by an elite MAT choir master.
Headteacher Sue Jackson said: “I am so pleased that our children, and by extension, all of the children of The Lee Chapel MAT, will have access to a professional theatre setting. It has been hard work to ensure funding was available, that the works were completed to the exemplary specification we wanted and finally, achieving the timescale we had set, but we did all that we set out to do and it has been worth it in the end”.
The theatre was opened by Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, and attended by dignitaries.
