A MAN has been taken to hospital after being rescued from the sea in Southend.

Last night, Essex Police attended a call following reports of a male walking into the sea.

Officers were able to locate the man from his mobile, where he was then around a mile and a half out to sea.

Thankfully, with the support from the coastguard and ambulance service the man was rescued and brought back to shore.

He was then taken to hospital for further care.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Last night, Officers from the B shift Response Team, attended a call of a male walking into the sea.

“A coordinated response between Police, Coastguard and Ambulance was quickly implemented.

“Officers were able to contact the male on his mobile phone and direct rescuers to his location, about a mile and a half out to sea.

“The male was safely brought back to shore and taken to hospital for appropriate care.

“A happy ending, thanks to excellent teamwork between emergency services.”
