FORGET brand loyalty, shopping around is key if you want to make savings on your shopping.

Abby Knight and her sister Jodi Knight appeared on the Channel 4's documentary Secrets of the Middle Aisle Christmas special with Basildon’s Denise Van Outen.

They spoke about their wackiest middle aisle purchases and their love of rival supermarkets.

Abby loves Aldi while her sister Jodi favours Lidl when it comes to bagging a bargain.

“My sister spoke about the time she went in to buy a pint of milk in Lidl and came out with a gold sequin jacket designed by Heidi Klum,” laughed Abby.

“There was also the time I wrestled someone in Aldi over a Kevin the Carrot toy for my son Joe, who was actually 18 at the time but wanted one. I must admit the other lady had a much younger son!”

As part of the show Abby, Jodi and their friends Tracey Woolley from Benfleet, Laura Grant from Billericay, Lisa Lawrence from Steeple View and Melissa Shelley from Billericay.

“We had fun doing the food tasting test, M&S won overall but Aldi won the Baileys alternative tasting and Lidl won the Christmas Pudding,” said Abby.

“It did make me see that it can be worth visiting other supermarkets for specific things.”

The filming took place at Abby’s house in Ramsden Bellhouse in August and October.

“It was great fun comparing all the goodies my sister Jodi Knight and I had picked up over the years including Kevin the Carrot, colour changing gin, gold sequinned jackets and a popcorn maker, all great bargains from the middle aisle.

“What we all felt is, even you don’t choose to do your whole shop in a discounted store, some of the food and goodies you can buy are worth going in for, especially the delicatessen style items and some of the fun toys and gadgets that make great pressies and secret Santas.
