He was then removed from the vehicle and assaulted, where his watch, wallet, and phone were taken.

Essex Police say they are also investigating a report of one of the men holding a weapon, but as of yet there are no reports of anyone sustaining a gunshot injury.

However, members of the public reported seeing a firearm.

No arrests have been made but police enquiries are ongoing, however, they do not believe there is any wider threat to the public in Southend.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Robson, of the serious and organised crime unit, is leading the investigation.

He said: “We have a number of areas around Southend which are being examined this morning in connection with this incident.

“We take any reports of firearms being seen and the public would rightly expect us to investigate that matter fully.

“I would stress that although the investigation is in its infancy, we do not believe there is any wider threat to the community as a result of this incident.

“We need anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or doorbell footage of the area between 11pm and 12.20am to get in contact as soon as possible.

“Please quote incident 50 of today, 8 December.”
