Drivers are facing long delays as the A13 remains closed in South Benfleet after a water main burst.
The major road is closed between A130 (Sadlers Farm Interchange) and Tarpots roundabout.
Essex and Suffolk Water are currently on site trying to repair the water leak and have been since yesterday evening.
Concerns about two water leaks on London Road had been raised with Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris, who reported the issue.
It is hoped the road will be re-opened before the evening rush hour, however it remains closed.
Essex Travel News, the county council's traffic control, has reported long delays on approaching roads as traffic diverts.
