AN INSPIRATIONAL five-year-old boy has been learning to walk again after undergoing hip surgery.
Danny Styles, from Southend, is already “back up and running” just weeks after hip surgery.
- AS we come to the end of 2022, we have selected eight inspiring children from across south Essex. This includes children who have bounced back after a medical emergency or injury, as well as others who have gone out their way to support and help others or raise money for charity.
The five-year-old has Perthes Disease, which effects one in 9,000, and is where the hip bones begin to die due to the blood supply being interrupted.
In July he has emergency surgery, and had to have a cast from his waist to his knees.
But despite this, just six weeks later Danny was back in school and running alone again.

His mum, Melanie Styles, said: “He makes me so incredibly proud every day.
“The doctors and surgeons said he wouldn’t be able to walk until at least Christmas time, but with the help of physio and hydrotherapy, six weeks later he was up and running.
“He has coped amazingly considering the pain he is in and the mobility issues he has, I am so proud.”
