A VICTIM whose ex-husband tried to kill her with an axe says the “scars are a constant reminder” of that awful day.

Alex Alam, 32, was attacked by former Dreamboys stripper boss David Richards, 42, outside her home in Stock, on April 3, 2022.

Richards carried an axe, cable ties and dry suit as he waited for hours outside Alam’s home – whom he had children with – to brutally attack.

“I’ve been utterly betrayed beyond belief by the person I chose to have children with, turning my life upside down,” Ms Alam said in her victim statement.

“The scars are a constant reminder of what he did to me.”

Following the verdict, Ms Alam’s support network issued a further statement on her behalf, saying: "Alex is very much still coming to terms with the events that took place on April the 3rd last year. Although justice has been served today, it is far from the end for her and her children.”

Investigating officer Detective Jenny Clarke, from the Essex Police Domestic Abuse Investigation Team, said: “Richards subjected Alex to a horrific ordeal and left her with injuries which will affect her for the rest of her life.

“Despite this, she has bravely given vital evidence in court and helped ensure he will be behind bars for the foreseeable future.

“He thought he could commit a dreadful crime, flee, and get away with it. He’s been proved wrong and rightfully where he deserves to be.”

Richards was found guilty of attempted murder on November 15 following a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
