A MUSIC group is “taking America by storm” as they perform on board an iconic aircraft as part of their tour of San Diego.

Global ambassadors at The Music Man Project visited the Californian city for a number of performances and workshops last week.

The Music Man Project - a disability-friendly music group based in Southend - was set up by David Stanley 2012 and has proved a huge hit, performing across the country and now making the leap across the pond.

They spent the week in San Diego performing in schools, hospitals, as well as the iconic USS Midway Museum.

A spokesman for the Music Man Project said: “Our Music Man Project global ambassadors have flown to San Diego for a week of performances and workshops.

“They have performed Music is Magic on board the iconic aircraft carrier, USS Midway Museum, accompanied by The Bands of HM Royal Marines.

“The event was called Magic on the Midway, and celebrated Team Lewis Foundation’s support of 1000 charities in the last two years.

“It was an unbelievable and unforgettable evening, and the students gave a fantastic performance.

“Our students also entertained over 200 delegates from around the world at the Guggenheim Theatre.

“And we had a brilliant joint concert with The Bands of HM Royal Marines at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego.

“We then finished it with our famous rendition of Music Is Magic.

“A fitting way to conclude our series of performances in this great city.”

The charity released Music Is Magic as a Christmas single, working with the Royal Marines Band Service and with all proceeds donated to projects which support people with learning disabilities across the UK.

Anna Firth, Southend West MP, added: “Led by the unstoppable David Stanley, Music Man goes from strength to strength, and continent to continent.

“I had the pleasure of seeing them perform their hit single at Waterloo Station over Christmas, totally proud to see such an amazing and empowering Southend-born charity spreading the message of inclusivity and accessibility.

“Seeing them take America by storm is awesome, and they deserve every moment. An aircraft carrier is a fitting stage for this group which is truly taking off.”
