Southend Airport had one of its busiest weeks with more than 1,000 planes touching the runway last week.

The airport recorded 1,148 aircraft movements last week amid "beautiful weather", its busiest week since June 13 2021.

Its busiest day was Saturday, when 235 planes touched the runway. This broke a record for the airport.

A spokesman for the airport said on Facebook: "We've broken a record! We’ve registered more than 1,000 aircraft movements this week — one of our busiest weeks EVER.

"We also broke a record yesterday (Saturday, January 21) with 235 movements in one day - congratulations to everyone, especially our London Southend Airport Air Traffic Control team!"

This comes after Southend Airport launched an exclusive deal in November for the general aviation community, allowing them to ‘touch-and-go’ at a discounted price over winter.

The offer, 'Circuits for £6', supports pilot circuit training at the airport from November 21 to March 31 with every circuit at only £6.

Cargo night flights from Southend Airport also resumed on January 10 in a move to support jobs.

Last week the airport announced Amsterdam had been added to its summer schedule, with flights taking off from May.
