More than 100 drivers were stopped and dozens were breath tested in Southend police patrols last night.

Roads policing officers were out last night with specialist police in Southend supporting Safer Essex Roads' Vision Zero aim.

Police were at four targeted locations enforcing and educating drivers, as they interacted with 125 drivers.

A total of 36 drivers were breath tested, 22 were issued tickets for not wearing seatbelts and four received tickets for using their phones while driving.

One driver was caught without insurance and four other traffic related offences were reported.

Vision Zero is the ambitious target to achieve zero deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads by 2040.

A spokesman for Essex Police in Southend said: "We're working hard to prevent deaths on Essex roads supporting Vision Zero."
