SEVERAL caravans which pulled up in a south Essex car park have been moved on by Essex Police.

Last night, six caravans were spotted pulling up at the car park at Waterside Farm Leisure Centre, in Somnes Avenue, Canvey.

Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, at the time said she has made senior officials aware at the council of the incident.

Essex Police has since confirmed they have moved the group on “out of the county” after “careful consideration”.

A spokesman said: “Following reports of an unauthorised encampment, our rural engagement team (RET) attended Waterside Farm on Canvey to with an unauthorised encampment on Canvey.

“This land is owned by Castle Point Borough Council.

“After careful consideration, officers used police powers to move the group.

“RET balanced the needs and rights of the travelling community with those of the local community to resolve issues.

“The group were moved on under sections 61-62 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act and followed out of the county.”
